Canmore Biathlon World Cup 7.5k Sprint
Soldier Hollow Biathlon World Cup 7.5k Sprint
Best biathlon race ever! It was a fun weekend to be racing ‘at home’ again, this time for biathlon! I had great shooting (0,2), and some fast skiing (I think I can credit it to ski racing at this venue so much), and qualified for the pursuit!
Holmenkollen Biathlon World Cup 15k Individual
When not practicing shooting for most of the winter it shows… oops!
Minneapolis Cross Country World Cups
This weekend was extra special, as so many people were loving Minnesota! Many of my friends and family came to watch, and I was tearing up on the start line hearing all the cheers for every US athlete. What a special experience! The races themselves weren’t anything special results wise as I was feeling pretty flat from Canmore, but it was one of the best weekends ever due to the atomosphere!
Canmore Cross Country World Cups
My first cross country ski world cups! These races were brutal, with two mass starts that had massive hills. The whole time I knew I was far behind the leaders and was just trying to stay afloat. It was a lot of fun racing against some of my normal domestic competition as well as the best in the world. The US ski team had a great attitude and was very welcoming, while being professional which I appreciated as a rookie.

Oestersund Biathlon World Cup 15k Individual
Biathlon World Cup to start the season! I was excited to start racing before the cross-country SuperTour domestic circuit began and to work on my biathlon skills. As always it takes a bit to warm up into racing, but the shooting was some of my best ever! Biathlon seems to always be a little overwhelming for me, so the world cup atmosphere didn’t seem too much to handle which I was happy about.
A great way to end the season on my home course, and some surprising good results! After 15 races in 30 days I’m ready for my April break.
IBU Cup Finals Canmore- all days
Competing in 6 races in 8 days was quite tiring and I’ll save you the trouble of clicking on all the separate result links. Having so many biathlon races back to back was a great way to get experience and improve every time. As always I am happy to have this opportunity.
Minneapolis SuperTour- Classic 20k
Minneapolis SuperTour- Skate Sprint
Dobiacco Cortina Marathon- 42k Skate
A last minute sign up for this iconic race ended up as quite a fun adventure! Though me and some of my biathlon teammates were doing this more for participation, I couldn’t help but push the pace. It was such a whirlwind but a great lifetime memory!
IBU Cup Obertilliach- 7.5k Sprint Day 2
IBU Cup Obertilliach- 7.5k Sprint Day 1
This race was one of those where all the pieces clicked together. I skied fast, and shot really well for myself, ending up in the top 20. Having a strong position like this showed me how exciting biathlon can be!

First ever biathlon race! I’ve wanted to try this sport after watching all my GRP biathlon teammates over the years, and it finally happened. I have done some shooting practice during the summers for fun, but mix in fast skiing, and it was completely different. This was a very fun event!
Sun Valley SuperTour- Skate 10k
Sun Valley SuperTour- Classic Sprint
Here’s something that was new during this race- my binding popped off! Right out of the start of the qualifier, the binding on my ski came off, and I was left with one ski. I didn’t want to spend time trying to get it back on, so I borrowed a ski from someone waxing near the start. Though the race didn’t go as planned, it was something new and exciting!

What a fun way to start the 2022/23 season! Thinking about how I used to only occasionally qualify for hears while sprinting, to now having my goal be making the finals is a great way to see progress through my career.

This was my first Birkie and was a great experience. I learned a lot about marathon racing from this race, including the importance of fueling. Advice I was given to ‘hang onto the lead pack as long as possible’ was just what I needed and did. When I fell off the back, it was so hard to keep moving forward, but thankfully I did, because I was amazed to find with so much cheering on main street. Can’t wait for next year’s Birkie!

I am happy with all of my finishing places at nationals, though the 20k mass start and classic sprint day were the best results. Both of these days had variable weather, and I was up against some really strong competition so I had to work hard to stay calm and not get too nervous! My parents came to watch which was a highlight besides the racing.

Not much racing going on the 2020-2021 season due to Covid-19 and travel restrictions. A lot of small Vermont races and time trials with my teammates and local juniors.
2020
I was very happy with this race. I had been working on my skate skiing and I executed as best I could. Racing at altitude is hard but I like to think of it as a good chance to challenge myself. In the results I am listed as Maggie Freed.

Typically not a sprinter, I wasn’t looking for much at this race. I snuck into the heats, and used my usual tactics of hanging out in the back of the pack, hoping to move up toward the end. This happened once and I got to move on, something pretty exciting for me!
